Overall: 7.5 out of 10
Graphics: The graphics were great. While the color scheme was a little
trying for the NES, they ended up pulling it off very well. Also, there
are some really original enemies, specifically the bosses. I was pleased
with the amount of detail they put in some of the things.
Sound: The music was also done very good. The sound quality is a little
weak, but there are some really cool and memorable songs in this game.
Sound effects were also a little on the weak side, but there were enough
of them in this game.
Gameplay: This is probably one of the best space shooters ever (the
whole series is). The only one I might like more is R-type. Anyway,
you pilot a ship and must make your way across a level shooting enemies
and asteroids. If you shoot a line of enemies or red colored enemies, you'll
get a powerup. At the bottom of the screen there is a little table with
an icon highlighted. The more powerups you get, the higher the icon is
highlighted. In this way, you can get different powers, like speed,
multi-shot, laser, and so on while skipping the powers you don't want.
This is a very fun and original game that I used to love playing. I still
pop it in every once in a while.
Hardness factor: This game is kind of hard, especially the first time you
play it. If you die in the middle of a hard level, you'll start it over without
any powers, which is incredibly annoying but expected.
Overall: 7.5 out of 10. Do yourself a favor and play this game. It is a classic
space shooter and there are a ton of different versions of this game that
all stay true to the original aspects.
