Graphics: This game had some really good graphics. The map field doesn't
really have the best graphics ever (reminds me of Dragon Warrior), the
sidescrolling part has really wicked graphics. Not only are the character
designs good, but there is a really nice dark color scheme throughout
the whole game.
Sound: The music in this game was done really well. It is high quality and
the songs are usually very dark and try to set the creepy mood. Some of
the coolest songs ever for the NES.
Gameplay: A really cool multi-layered game. This game is a sequel to
Gargoyles Quest, which is the sequel to Ghost and Goblins, which is also
a sequel to Ghouls and Ghosts (and there's another game being made for
the PS2). Anyway, first, this game is in an overhead view, like Dragon
Warrior or Final Fantasy (well, better than Final Fantasy) and you basically
interact with people to gain new abilities and generally to find out where
you must go next. Then, once you finally go where you must, the game
switches to a sidescrolling view and you must battle enemies with
your character and collect vials to give away so you can change to a
new character with new powers. This game is really good, but there
was one thing I didn't like about this game. Unlike Gargoyles Quest for
the SNES, the controls were just hard to get used to. The controls were
very tight and unresponsive.
Hardness factor: This game wasn't really incredibly hard, despite the
controls being tough. Especially once you get a few powers under your belt.
Overall: 6.5 out of 10. This game is really good. In fact, I recommend
that you get this game and play the whole series. It's made by Capcom
(Mega Man, Breath of Fire) so you know it's good.
