Dragon Warrior 4

"This was a tough choice. With four Dragon Warrior games to choose from,
everyone had a favorite. It was decided that the fourth Dragon Warrior game
was so big and tough that it might come and beat us up if we didn't vote for
it. It was the last of the Dragon Warrior games to appear in North America,
as well, and we still look back fondly to that lost era of grand RPG's. Long
live Edrick!" Is what Nintendo Power said about Dragon Warrior 4 having the
honer of being it's #83 of best Nintendo games of all time. Dragon Warrior 4
was the only Dragon Warrior game to make it to the top 100 list for some
strange reason. I will try to make you see that this game blows all other
RPG's right out of the water (except maybe the Final Fantasy games).
Graphics 8 out of 10
The graphics when you're walking around are your typical, NES graphics.
However the enemies look like works of art! There are 184 different
enemies in this game, and each one must of required 3 days, 28 cups of
coffee, and 8 naps to think of, and draw. I think some of the Dragon Warrior 4
monsters look better than some N64 monsters. This goes for all the Dragon
Warrior games.
Music and Sound 7 out of 10
I have three words, average average average, so I can't count, sue me.
The whole game is your typical, NES music. There are probably at least
20 tunes though, and that makes up for it. There is one song, that is the
BEST video game tune I ever heard/ That's the theme to the Sisters of
Monbareba. It's some sort of Spanish thing, but I could listen to it for hours!
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
Very hard, need I say more? Well I should really. There is always an enemy
out there with your name on it. Sometimes the is a boss that is so hard, that
you need to be about 15 levels higher then it to be able to whip his sorry rear.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
The thing I like best about this game is the concept that you play 4 chapters
(or plots, or whatever you call them), and in the fifth chapter you play and gain
the people from the past chapters. There is also about...let's see, carry the 2,
add 23, divide by 1.7, I'd say 4,000 different goals in the fifth chapter. Plus
there is very simple play control.
Frustration
The only wrong thing in Dragon Warrior 4 is the fact that the average number
of steps it takes to run into an enemy is about 4.
Replayability 10 out of 10
Right now I'm playing Dragon Warrior 4 for the ninth time through. It's sill
just as exciting as the first time.
Game Value 10 out of 10
When I first got this game, I payed about $50 for it. I feel I ripped that store off.
I would say if it weren't for the cruel modern markets against the NES, I would
make it several hundred dollars.
Overall 10 out of 10
I've got three more words, great great great, hey I got it right this time!
If you ever find some store like Funcoland shelling this game, BUY IT!,
BUY IT RIGHT THERE! It would be the best investment you ever did!
