Overall: 6 out of 10
Graphics: The graphics are okay. They were original when these games
were made in the 80s, but not so much anymore. There is a pretty good
color scheme in both games and quite a bit of detail (again, for its time).
It's pretty weird seeing Mario like that though.
Sound: The music in this game is vacant. There's only 3 songs in the whole
game; one at the selection screen, one for Donkey Kong, and one for Donkey
Kong Jr. However, there are enough sound effects in both games and the
sound effects were very fitting.
Gameplay: A collection of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. In Donkey
Kong, you play as Jumpman (later changed to Mario) who is on the very
bottom floor and you must make your way up to Donkey Kong on the top
floor while dodging enemies or harming them with a hammer. On the
second level, you run around and try to run over glowing pieces of land
in order to make Donkey Kong fall to the ground. In Donkey Kong Jr., you
play as Donkey Kong Jr. and you must release your father from a cage
that the Marios are guarding. This game basically involves climbing up
vines and dodging enemies and is no where near as fun as Donkey Kong
is. The controls are pretty good for Donkey Kong, but they are desired
for Donkey Kong Jr.
Hardness factor: Donkey Kong is sort of an easy game. While Jumpman
is pretty slow, it's not that hard to determine when to jump barrels.
Donkey Kong Jr. is hard though. The controls are bad and it takes forever
for your character to respond.
Overall: 6 out of 10. A really good port of the arcade games. If they
added DK 3 I'd definitely recommend this, but since they didn't I really
wouldn't bother unless you must play these games.
