Bubble Bobble
Reviewed by Kyle
Bubble Bobble is one of the first games I ever played for my NES. You
and a partner are baby dinosaurs (green and blue) and as a weapon
you shoot bubbles out of your mouths. Your job is to trap the enemies
in each level in your bubbles, and then pop the bubble with the enemy
inside. After clearing all the enemies from a board, you move onto the
next one. If you choose to play with two people, you work cooperatively
to clear each board and move on. In order to successfully beat the
game, you MUST play with 2 people, and win with both still alive at
the end. Kinda tough eh?
Graphics 3 out of 5
The dinosaurs are very cute :o). The game doesn't go much into
great detail, but the background designs for each board are nicely
done. There's nothing too fancy about the game, but it doesn't
look like someone shoddily put colors up without a care. Overall, I
would say it looks cute. Not realistic like in contra or something
like that, but cartoon-like.
Music and Sound 4 out of 5
There is a cute little song playing throughout your journey. It does
not get annoying like in some other games, but it is repetitive. If
you die, there is of course a mean sound to make you feel even
worse about dyeing. When you pop out a bubble, it makes a
different cute little "pop" and there's a sort of "spring" when you
kill the bad guys. Overall, the music is nice and cute. It goes well
with the cute graphics.
Game Challenge 3 out of 5
Well, with over 200 boards to beat, no matter HOW good you are
it will take a while to master this game. You can however play with
a partner which makes things easier. And, you get a password each
time after you die so you have unlimited continues from where you
left off. You do have to figure out how to get to the secret world
with an additional 100 boards and the REAL boss. If you go straight
through the game, you'll come to a boss at board 100. If you beat
him, you still lose. You have to find the crystal ball and get to the
secret world. Then go through all those boards to get to the REAL
boss. Now, you have to hit that real boss 50 times without dyeing,
and only if your friend and you are both still alive, then you have
finally beaten the game. The first couple of boards are easy, but
they get challenging higher up. Plus it takes a while (without
cheating) to get to the real boss. Overall, it will take some skill
and a friend with equal skill to be able to conquer this game.
Game Play-Fun 5 out of 5
One of the best games ever made! It is definitely addicting. It's
not too hard where you get frustrated and want to give up, but
its hard and long enough to keep you interested and prevent you
from beating the game 1 hour after getting it. It's easy enough
for younger people to play and enjoy, yet still challenging to the
older more skilled players. A classic game, you must have it!!!
Frustration
It can get frustrating a bit when you're stuck on a hard level and
can't get lucky enough to get past. (level 65 is a toughie!) But, if
you look hard enough you can find a website with all the passwords
for the levels and cheat and skip ahead. Plus, you can continue from
where you died, so you don't have to go ahead and redo everything
you beaten before. That helps. Unlimited continues makes up for
any hard board you'll encounter.
Replayability 4 out of 5
Even if you've managed to beat the real boss with a friend, you'll
still want to play this game. You can try and get through as many
boards as possible without continuing, or try and get the secret
free life as quick as possible, or get as many points as possible.....
There's a lot of fun to be had with this game other than just
beating the final boss.
Game Value 5 out of 5
Bubble Bobble is getting kind of rare so you'll find it on auction
for about $10. It is definitely worth it! Very addicting, lots of fun,
truly a classic that any NES fan must have!
Overall 5 out of 5
If you don't have it already, go out and buy this game!!
