Battletoads

Where to begin, where to begin. I am at a loss of how to describe one
of the greatest classic games ever created. I am sure that in some
point in time you have heard of this NES classic, and you have probably
played it. In my opinion, it is in the top 5 NES games and to be honest,
maybe even video games period, that I have ever played, for good
reasons, which I will state later on in the review. If you have never
played this, I suggest that you find it somewhere, like at a pawnshop or
at a rental store, and play it. You will be hooked, just as I was (or am).
Graphics 9.7 out of 10
This game features some incredibly good graphics for the NES, as
Rare always does. This game delivers, from the super fast flawless
scrolling in the hoverbike levels to the big bosses on the beat-em-up
levels, the graphics are sharp, clever, and professionally done in true
Rare fashion.
Music and Sound 1.0 out of 10
The music is great too. One of the best things about the music is its
level of variety. The first level has a rap sounding beat to it, while the
later levels have some slower, more ominous music. Overall, nicely done,
catchy, and never boring or repetitive, but nothing legendary.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
Here is where the game shows itself. With about fifteen huge levels,
you will not beat this game for a long, long time, even if you play with
another person at the same time. Some of the later levels, such as the
surfing level or the fire level, can be very difficult, and much practice
is needed to beat them. You practically need to devote a lifetime to
this game to fully beat it, but the reward is worth it, and the game
is so fun you will keep coming back. Also, it is so long that you will
think that you are on the last level, just to find out that there are
over five more after that one!
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
This is definitely the games strong point. The control, from running to
jumping, is perfect, and the hit detection is superb. When you and a
friend play together, (which you can do at the same time on one screen,)
there isn't a more fun NES experience that I know of, except maybe for
RC Pro-Am 2, which is also made by rare and is also a classic. The
reason you will be able to get anywhere on this game is because you
will play it so much because it is so fun. Amazing. Another thing that adds
a lot to this game is the fact that there is a boss at the end of nearly
every level. I love it!
Frustration
There is definitely some frustration in this game, as in all games,
but it actually isn't that high. The only really frustrating things are
the hoverbike parts, which are also very fun, and the sixth boss. He is
a pain in the due-dah. But overall, very hard, but not too frustrating,
which is a good thing.
Replayability 10 out of 10
This game excels in replayability, simply because you will want to
keep getting farther and farther on the game to see what the next level
will be like. You will find yourself coming back to it, trust me.
Game Value 11 out of 10
There is no better value, especially now that you can find it for
about $5.00, than this game. GET IT.
Overall 9.9 out of 10
Overall, I cannot stress your need to at least play this game sometime,
it is a true classic, and is light-years above 99% of most NES games.
