Adventure Island 2
Reviewed by Sean Lacey
Adventure Island 2 is a game that presents it's own quality of fun while remaining
challenging. This game is over one of the best that I have played. There have been
occasions where it has been nearly impossible to tear me away from the game
because I'll be close to beating one of the islands.
Graphics 9 out of 10
The graphics in this game are awesome (for the time). The graphics are part of
what adds to the fun. They take you anywhere from the tan sky of an arid desert
to the dark blue waters of an underwater cave. It's is also fun to watch the
Dinosaurs preform their special actions. (i.e. The red dino spits a fire ball from
it's mouth), and it's always funny to see the guy burning all over and covering
himself whenever he touches fire.
Music and Sound 10 out of 10
The sound in this game is what really makes the environments what they are. The
sounds can make you feel like you are in a damp cave or make you feel like your on
a tropical forest. The theme music of the game is really catchy, though to some it
might get a little annoying.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
This game is one of the most challenging games that I have played on the NES. I
still have yet to beat it. Without the aid of the game genie or any other codes I
can get to the third island before I die, and I've had the game for about 4 or 5 years.
The games challenge is what makes the player wanting to come back for more and more.
Game Play-Fun 9 out of 10
This game is extremely fun to play. Once you die it leaves you wanting to know what
comes next and how much farther you can get. In my opinion the best part of this game
is the dinosaurs. The have a special one for each level. There is a Red one that spits
fireballs and can walk on lava which you will probably need for the first island but
don't step on the fires. There is a blue one that shoots a spark from it's tail and it
has very good traction on the ice. There is red one that looks like some loch ness
monster and it is pretty much a big lug to have around except when in water where
he is extremely helpful. Finally there is the teredactyl which of course can fly and
also drops rocks.
Frustration
The main frustration comes from getting to an island but having no supplies. It may
seem like something that doesn't happen very often but believe me, it happens more
then you might think.
Game Value 8 out of 10
This game is overall worth it's price. Though sometimes it can get you frustrated
and make you think otherwise.
Overall 9 out of 10
In conclusion I would say that this game was very well done. There weren't too many
parts of this game that I found to be extremely annoying or extremely challenging.
And though I haven't beat it I have a feeling that I'll be playing it for a while to come.
