Tiny Toon Adventures: Babs Big Break

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by Phil The story here is that you control Buster Bunny, Plucky Duck and Hampton (a pig) and you must help your friend Babs launch her acting career. Unfortunately, Montana Max wants to make sure that won't happen. You only control one character at any given time. They are all alike, except for their "weapons" (respectively: carrots, pineapples and watermelons). These weapons aren't really useful because you can beat all the enemies by jumping on them, jumping or ducking (insert lame joke on Plucky Duck here). Throughout the 4 levels, you will meet your friends Dizzy Devil, Furball, Fifi and Shirley the Loon. You cannot control them, but they will help you.

Graphics 9 out of 10

For a Game Boy game made in 1991, the characters look pretty good. In fact, you're probably gonna find them cute. The background fits in nicely, but doesn't add much. In a few moments, some jokes slip in there, but you won't find yourself rolling on the floor. The characters look exactly like the ones on TV.

Music and Sound 5 out of 10

The sound goes really well with the scene you are in. The sound effects however, can be really annoying. For example, even if you scroll through it, the text will make an annoying sound each time 1 letter is written on the screen.

Game Challenge 3 out of 10

This game was obviously made with youngsters in mind, as any average gamer should be able to go through this game in 1 or 2 days. There are only 4 levels (the school, the city, the forest, Montana's mansion), and they are rather short. You can also earn lives rather easily in little games. In one of them, Montana Mash, a Whack-a-Mole rip-off, you can win 3 or more lives in a snap. The real challenge could be to finish the game using only one life.

Game Play-Fun 6.5 out of 10

The game play was adequate, no more, no less. Sometimes, you will get up from ducking before you would want to, but that is one of the only flaws. The rest is OK. For fans of the show, Babs Big Break should be fun, because the characters look and think just like their counterparts on the Saturday mornings.

Frustration

You won't get frustrated really often, if it isn't for the occasional loss of a heart caused by an anvil that you thought missed you or maybe during the final scene against your arch-rival, Montana.

Replayability 2 out of 10

You might find it fun to try to finish the game in say, half an hour, by only using one life. If you don't, consider selling your cartridge.

Game Value 8 out of 10

This game shouldn't cost too much, and should be a good way to keep your son, daughter, niece, cousin, etc, entertained for a while. This game is one player only, meaning that you won't have to play with them!

Overall 6.1 out of 10

For an average gamer, this is a waste of time and money. For a kid who loves Buster and the gang, however, this is a good way to keep him busy during a long summer trip.
