Tamagotchi

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by MagikDragonz Do you remember the old craze of Tamagotchi? Me too. Scary wasn't it? I got one of those Tamagotchi toys and totally enjoyed it! Meanwhile, I didn't have any idea Bandai was making a Tamagotchi game. Soon enough I heard about it when I was getting a little sick of Tamagotchi but I put it on my Christmas wish-list anyway. When I got it for Christmas I didn't believe how great the game actually was!

Graphics 9 out of 10

The graphics are great, they're no Nintendo 64 graphics but they are pretty good for Game Boy. Some of the people characters are anima. All of the characters are very... umm... perky looking. But don't expect your little duck Tamagotchis to be electrocuting stuff like our pal Pikachu from Pokemon though, all these characters are too perky and happy. Kind of sick isn't it.

Music and Sound 8 out of 10

The music is great at some points in the game but it gets a little repetitive and a little on my nerves sometimes. That stupid happy go lucky music can get to your head sometimes. It's also all happy when your Tamagotchi gets sick and is about to die. In this game the Tamagotchi doesn't do that rather annoying beeping noise. Instead it hops around and stuff, so the sounds are fairly good. I have to admit they are better than the toy.

Game Challenge 8 out of 10

I don't exactly understand what the challenge is exactly, but it is challenging to keep up with your Tamagotchi sometimes. It may be happy at one point and then it needs exercise. There is so much stuff just like a real pet would need. It is much more realistic than the little beeping toy. You can teach your Tamagotchi basic math ( eg. 1 + 2=3), make it catch some falling balls ( don't ask) or you can play the traditional smile game. But even these games get more challenging as your Tamagotchi grows older. And I guess another challenge would be to take good care of all your eggs the guy at the laboratory gives you? Yeah that is pretty hard too. It is hard enough to keep one Tamagotchi happy, and having 3 at a time can be too much if you're not experienced.

Game Play-Fun 7.5 out of 10

This game can get boring sometimes if you're doing the same thing over and over. I find the funniest parts of this game are entering your Tamagotchi in tournaments such as races, beauty and intelligence contests ( my little Tamagotchi, Rosie, won the beauty contest) and when your Tamagotchi grows. But this game is still very very fun and is much more fun than the original toy.

Frustration

This game can get on your nerves sometimes if your Tamagotchi dies (I lost my pal Rosie and it was a very sad moment, *sniffle*) or if your Tamagotchi won't obey you or whatever. Sometimes if you're trying to play a game, it gets hungry and then it doesn't want to play the ball catching game so it gets you all upset and confused. Tamagotchis can be really moody.

Replayability 10 out of 10

This game has a great replay value. You get 8 eggs per game (you can save your game so you can always go back later). You can hatch and raise up to 3 Tamagotchis at a time and find out what each egg grows into. Also they say there's some "hidden egg" so I guess you can try to get that.

Game Value 7.6 out of 10

It depends on what you pay for this game. I wouldn't pay over $45 for this game because it's not like the greatest game in the world. But if you really like Tamagotchi and virtual pet type stuff you will love this game. But $45 and under is a reasonable price I wouldn't pay more than that.

Overall 8.5 out of 10

This game is really great. Virtual pet games such as this are very rare and unique. I'm glad that they decided to add more features to this game, such as tournaments, etc. because it adds more life to the game. Do not expect this game to be some copy of the toy on the Game Boy, because it really isn't. There is much more stuff to do and any Tamagotchi/virtual pet lover will like to play this game. I just wish that there was a Pikachu game like this one for Game Boy.
