Pokemon
Reviewed by Jackson Reid
Well, to start off, Pokemon is by far the best RPG I've ever
seen for any system. Sure, the graphics are Game Boy graphics,
but still, this game is awesome. You are Ash, (or whatever name
you want to be), a ten-year old boy living in Pallet Town. Your
goal is to become the greatest Pokemon master of all time. To
do this, you need to beat all 8 gym trainers and the Elite Four.
Also, on your way, you come across your life-long rival, Gary
many times. (You can name him too.) He is also trying to become
the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. As you travel around the world,
fighting trainers, and catching wild Pokemon to fight trainers,
you encounter Giovanni and Team Rocket. Team Rocket is a group
of trainers dedicated to evil using Pokemon. You meet many,
many other people along the way.
Music and Sound 8 out of 10
Pokemon's music can be torture to the ears, or it can be really
good. The Game Corner's song is great, and it fits the scenery
perfectly. Although, I must say, while fighting a trainer, you are
automatically inclined to turn it down all the way. Gary's and
Professor Oak's little "jingles" are cool, though.
Game Challenge 9 out of 10
The first time I played Pokemon, I was stumped totally. At first,
I had no idea how to beat Brock, the first gym trainer, and then I
was stuck in Cerulean City for a week. Pokemon is a very challenging
game, the first time you play it, but once you beat the game, and
start over, it's a heck of a lot easier.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
Pokemon is one of the most fun games I've ever played. The fun
thing about it is your objective is always changing. One time it's
find the secret house, the next it's a puzzle about pushing certain
rocks into certain holes to clog up the rushing underground stream
so you can escape that cave. Also, with 150 Pokemon, you almost
always have a different line-up which you can change anytime.
Frustration
There is some frustration in some parts of Pokemon. Cerulean City
and Victory Road are the biggest examples. It can take a while to
get out of some places.
Game Play with the extension cord 10 out of 10
Pokemon can be used with the extension cord to battle other people's
Pokemon or to trade Pokemon. You have to trade to collect all 150
Pokemon. Battling Pokemon is real fun, especially when you send a
powerful one and laugh, "Ha, ha, ha!"
Overall 8.7 out of 10
All in all, Pokemon is the best RPG I've seen, and one of the best
Game boy games ever, I think. Even after you beat the game, you
still have to catch the experimental freak Pokemon, Mewtwo. This
game has great replayability, great game challenge, not so good
on the graphics, and good music/sound.
