Pokemon Crystal

Reviewed by Poke_Fan What I would first like to mention is that although this is categorized under Game Boy, it is really a Game Boy Color game, due to the improvements in the graphics, such as animated Pokemon at the beginning of battle sequences and the improvement in the overall graphics (ex: The ice cave now looks much better than it used to!) Also, this game is kind of like Pokemon yellow, a continuation of two games before.

Graphics: 9 out of 10

Although the graphics in Pokemon crystal are much better than in red, blue, yellow, gold or silver, the aren't the best graphics I've seen for a Game Boy Color game. What gave them a 9, was the fact that they are better, and the animated battle sequences are really cute and make the game as a whole more enjoyable! (ex: Chikorita spins the leaf on his head, Sentret jumps up and down, etc.) Also, the Ice Cave is looking a whole lot better than it used to, that's for sure! I really was impressed with the crystals and such inside the cave.

Music and Sound: 10 out of 10

Cheesy as it is, I have always liked to listen to the music on the Pokemon games, I thought they always had catchy tunes and often found myself humming them during the day!! I like the style, the sound and the tunes themselves, although I know they drive some people bananas!

Game Challenge: 10 out of 10

The overall basic beat-the-bad-guys part of the game is fairly easy, I found the trainers and the gym leaders to be quite easy. But, with the all-new battle tower, the new more-explained mysteries of the unknowns and 251 Pokemon to catch, the game is quite a challenging one indeed! You must trade from other games to get all 251 Pokemon, and finding someone who is willing to trade can be quite a challenge! Also, it is challenging to get all the mystery gifts, as you can only trade 5 times per day with different people. (Although if you know how to change the time and days on your game, you can get as many as you want!) Yes, I think the overall game is very challenging.

Game Play-Fun: 10 out of 10

The first time I played this game, I got hooked! I love it! With all the Pokemon and the styles of training and the new fact that you can be a girl (considering I am one!) I really love the egg-hatching idea, the new look of the ice cave and the battle tower. Also, when I first started, I had no clue that you could go to Kanto which I found a most pleasant surprise when I ventured there! Pokemon Crystal is definitely one of the most fun games there is for Game Boy color!

Frustration

The only things that frustrated me were when I had to walk-not bike (waaaaaayyyyyy to slow!) And when I got stuck at Whitney's gym because my Pokemon kept falling in love with her Miltank. Most of the time, there is a friendly fellow trainer who will give you a hint about where to go next, so this game isn't very frustrating.

Replayability: 2 out of 10

I hate it when you get sooooo far in this game, with tons of cool awesome Pokemon at level 100 and then your pesky little sister (or someone) erases the whole thing! It makes me not want to go through the whole process again! (although I usually do!) But, if your game is just sitting there, not getting touched by anyone who will erase it, then it's a game you can play for hours and hours finding hidden things you didn't know about or trying to catch a cool new Pokemon.

Game Value: 10 out of 10

A great game, worth every penny!

Overall: 10 out of 10

Although I had some complaints about this game, I still give it 10 out of 10 as it is an awesome game! Very fun challenging and entertaining! I strongly recommend to any Pokemon lover (or a Pokemon lover in training!) to buy this game, renting it isn't very good because it takes so long to beat! (If you find every secret and puzzle) IF YOU BUY THIS GAME, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
