Graphics: The graphics in Operation C aren't anything spectacular. They
are just a tiny bit above normal in terms of what the Gameboy (not Color)
can do. There's a sparse amount of detail to enemies and even bosses but
at least there aren't any graphical blurbs.
Sound: The sound is also okay. It sounds like it was taken out of the Contra
games, only toned down a little so they could use it on the Gameboy. Songs
are nice, but sound quality on the GB ruins it. Sound effects are a little
too absent.
Gameplay: This classic sidescrolling shooter game is just like the other
ones for the Nintendo. You play as a guy and must shoot away enemies to
get to the boss at the end of the level to move onto the next. Just like in
all of the others, you can get power ups, though in this one they fly above
you and you must shoot them down. These power-ups make your way a little
easier since they upgrade your weapons to flame, laser, machine gun, and
a few others. It's a pretty good game, though I think they did a better job
on the original Contra for the Nintendo. Controls are very nice for the
Gameboy, though jumping gets annoying.
Hardness factor: I had to play this game a few times in order to beat the
game. You have to dodge enemies and bullets and it may take you a little
while to learn how bosses act. It's also kind of annoying that your
character doesn't jump very well.
Overall: 6.5 out of 10. I thought this game was pretty fun, even if it
didn't live up to the standards of the original. Still, if you can get past
the graphics, it's a very good game.
