Donkey Kong
Reviewed by Nathan Verni
Donkey Kong for the Nintendo Game boy, is a perfect blend of puzzle , action and
adventure. This game, which is based on the game of the same name for the Atari,
features the infamous Mario, as well as Donkey Kong, the Princess, and Donkey
Kong Jr. However, unlike in the Donkey Kong series for Super Nintendo or Game
Boy, Donkey Kong in this game is the villain. He has kidnapped the Princess and it
is up to you, as Mario, to save her.
Graphics 8 out of 10
As far as Game Boy is concerned, these graphics are fairly good. It's very easy to
see everything clearly, even when a lot of action is on the screen at the same time.
The only time I ever had trouble seeing was on some of the boards with darker
backgrounds. The graphics get the job done.
Music and Sound 8 out of 10
For a Game Boy game, the music and sound is good. Typical video game music
accompanies the action, as well as your typical bleeping sound affects. The Music
does add suspense to the more dangerous parts of the game. Very Good.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
This game is surprisingly difficult. As stated before, the game has many puzzle
aspects involved in the game play. Mario must use his wits to figure out how to
get to certain places. Their is also time limits in other parts. Although the puzzles
get kind of frustrating, they add to the reply value and make the game a more
lasting experience. And it requires you TO THINK!!!
Game Play-Fun 9 out of 10
I enjoyed playing this game greatly. I think its one of the best games for Game Boy
of its time. The final sequence with Donkey Kong is awesome. This game reveals many
games for many more advanced systems. No matter how good the graphics of a game
are, the gameplay is what determines it a good game. That's what this is, pure and
simple fun. I highly recommend it. Its great for car trips.
Frustration
Like stated before, the puzzle's get a bit frustrating, but nothing too bad. Its a
pretty non-frustrating game.
Replayability 7 out of 10
Because you can go through some boards more than one way, or pick different courses,
the reply value of this game is pretty high. Once you complete the whole game, you
might not want to start another game right away. But hang on to it, you'll be playing
again soon.
Game Value 10 out of 10
If you could find this game used it would be great. The normal price is also well
worth its game play value. Hours of enjoyment.
Overall 9 out of 10
Overall, get this game. If Game Boy is still your main area of video game enjoyment,
and you haven't got it yet, what are you waiting for? Go out and save princess!
