Graphics: The graphics in this game were okay, but there was nothing
spectacular. The enemies looked pretty basic like they have been done
many times before, but there were a few really cool ones in there. The
Gameboy didn't justify them any, however. Backgrounds were unimpressive,
as were explosions, but it wasn't too bad.
Sound: The music wasn't anything spectacular. While the songs were great
in setting the mood, the Gameboy just wasn't the system for them. They
did pretty well in the sound effects fortunately.
Gameplay: A Gameboy port of the popular NES game Castlevania. This was
one of the first and most popular sidescrollers and it set the way for many
others. In this version, the controls aren't quite as good and your character
moves just a little bit slower, which gets annoying real quickly. The game
is pretty simple. You run around and kill monsters with a whip. Break open
candlesticks and you can get upgrades for your whip (like a chain whip),
more life, and even points. It is fun though; just the controls are way too bad.
Hardness factor: The game can get very hard because of how bad the
controls are and how slow your character is.
Overall: 5 out of 10. While this isn't really a bad game, I prefer the NES port.
